This is my first Harley and is the bike that inspired me to start making parts and tools. It started life as an FX model, which would have had a sportster 35mm front end, a sportster rear fender, and a superglide tank, and kick start only.
By the time I got it 40 years after it left the showroom floor, someone had converted it to more of an FLH spec with 5 gallon split tanks, a softail single disk wideglide front end, and a fatbob style rear fender. There were also numerous mechanical issues with it. But that's pretty par for the course when you buy a bike from an old biker who lives on a dirt road that is off another dirt road that is off a gravel road in backwoods Ohio.
As soon as I got it home, I tried to get it running but was having lots of trouble with the clutch. I also realized that the top end of this bike was pretty tired and could use a rebuild. After taking care of the mechanical issues, I started modifying the bike cosmetically. I started turning the bike back into an FX, adding a superglide tank and sportster rear fender. After riding it like that for a while, I completely stripped the bike down to the frame and did a full rebuild, changing out the superglide tank for an original Wassel Banana tank and SB+F struts. This bike has been the test mule for many Unity parts and tools, most recently the Tuff rotors.
It's due for another refresh, and I think I'm gonna take the drivetrain and put it into a hardtail frame next.
